RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS
How does the population of Pimlico feel about an “expressive and visible landmark”?
A1
The views of the communities on both sides of the bridge will be sought during the competition, through the competition website and through public exhibitions. As stated in the brief, the competition will be used to raise local awareness of the bridge and engage both the hearts and minds of those living to the north and south of the proposed crossing.
Q2
Please will you clarify what is being sought in the A2 image for Challenge 5 and what further briefing information will be issued to competitors in order to prepare the design upon which the image is based.
A2
As explained in the brief, several options for the location of the bridge are currently being considered and the final location will not be agreed until Stage 2 of the competition. So, at this stage of the competition, competitors are being asked to demonstrate that they have the skills to address the technical challenges described in the brief as well as the creative talent to create a memorable landmark across this section of the Thames. The image requested in Challenge 5 should demonstrate the latter but should also draw on the former.
A summary of the TfL feasibility report on this bridge is appended in the brief. All competitors that pass the Stage 1A resilience criteria will be given access to the detailed report which gives further technical, planning and environmental details and an in depth analysis of the two preferred location options.
Q3
The company who pass stage 1A will proceed to stage 1B. When are the companies are going to be notified?
Because the two weeks schedule is quite tight.
A3
As it says on the website (http://www.nepbridgecompetition.co.uk/key-dates.html) the invitations to take part in Stage 1B will be sent out on 26 January 2015; Stage 1B submissions are required THREE weeks later by 12 noon on 16 February.
