Submission Requirements
The submission requirements listed below were published at the start of the competition.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR STAGES 1A AND 1B
STAGE 1A SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The Stage 1A resilience criteria will need to be met by the lead organisation in each competing team: the organisation with which Wandsworth Council will contract, should that team win.
All competitors are requested to submit their Stage 1A documents via Wandsworth Council's questionnaire.
Competitors from outside the UK will need to submit their Stage 1A submissions in £ Sterling.
Stage 1A submissions must be uploaded via the Wandsworth Council questionnaire website no later than 12 noon on Tuesday 13 January 2015.
STAGE 1B SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Only competitors who pass the Stage 1A criteria will be eligible to take part in Stage 1B. Invitations to take part in Stage 1B will be sent, by email, on 26 January 2015. Each team will be given a unique competition number that will need to be included on all information submitted by the team.
All competitors are required to submit two A2 boards and an A4 document of no more than seven sides of A4.
A2 BOARDS
Two identical copies of each board is required:
Board 1: Words, diagrams and images to demonstrate how the following technical challenges might be addressed:
Challenge 1: integrating cycle and pedestrian traffic
Challenge 2: place making across the bridge and at its landing points
Challenge 3: height across the river and the inherent access issues
Challenge 4: approach to construction to minimise impact on river traffic
Board 2: A single image, illustrating what the bridge would look like as it spans the river and demonstrating how
this team could create a fitting landmark for this part of London, which is both sensitive to the different
urban characteristics of each shoreline and elegant in its own right. This image will be included in a public
exhibition and will therefore be used to communicate with the Jury and the wider community.
To enable public consultation to be undertaken fairly Board 2 must NOT carry any words or logos that could
identify the team members involved in creating the image.
More detail on these challenges can be found in the Stage 1 brief.
A4 DOCUMENT
Five paper copies of this A4 document are required.
The A4 document should comprise no more than seven sides of A4:
- The contact details (including email address) for the individual to whom correspondence should be addressed
- No more than 300 words describing why this is the right team for this project
- Undertake successful community consultation
- Work to deliver within planning and regulatory constraints.
ELECTRONIC COPIES
In addition to the hard copies of the boards and document identified above, competitors are asked to submit PDF copies of the boards and the A4 document. A JPEG version of Board 2 should also be provided, at a maximum size of 500kb. The electronic copies should be submitted either on a USB stick delivered with the hard copies or via electronic transfer such as Dropbox or the equivalent. Please note that emails will not be accepted.
Competitors outside the UK are reminded to fill in the customs forms stating that the enclosed documents have no value, so as to avoid their parcels being held at customs.
Stage 1B submissions must be delivered to Colander Associates’ offices no later than 12 noon on Monday 16 February 2015. Please note that it is each competitor’s responsibility to ensure that its complete submission arrives in good time. LATE DELIVERIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
STAGE 2 SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A detailed brief will be issued to Stage 2 competitors. It is envisaged that they will be asked to produce no more than three A1 boards to describe their proposals, backed up with a short, explanatory A4 report addressing technical issues, logistics and costs. No models are being requested at this stage.
At Stage 2, shortlisted competitors will be asked to develop their design ideas for the actual site, over an eight week period. As well as creating a design of landmark significance, teams will be asked to demonstrate:
- assist in a fundraising and promotional campaign
- perform well in local and community consultation
- negotiate the complex planning and regulatory constraints.
Applicants are asked to bear these issues in mind from the outset.
PLEASE NOTE
Colander Associates will exercise all reasonable care but will not be responsible for loss or damage to drawings which occur either in transit or during exhibitions, storage or packaging.
